I spent my birthday working. When I finally got off for the day my friends Stefanie & Will picked me up and took me out for a mellow celebration.
First on the list (because I was starving) was In-N-Out, then we went to one of my favorite places in LA - Milk. Seriously, if you love ice cream as much as I do, you must go to Milk. Their homemade drumsticks are to die for. And I had one tonight.
Also, since one of my favorite places in LA is the Griffith Observatory we headed up there so I could see the view at night for the first time. It is so, so beautiful. It makes me long for a better camera.
My birthday has been kind of a mess through the years, and my life has been in a constant state of change for a few years now, but I can still count on my friends. And I kind of love that.

Now don’t you tell me you don’t remember me, because I sure as heckfire remember you. Ned? Ryerson? Needlenose Ned? Ned in the head?
I love that there’s a Bill Murray movie for my birthday. :)

Happy birthday, Walt Disney. Here he is behind the camera when he was just 21. He was born 111 years ago today.
To commemorate the 110th anniversary of Disney’s birth last year, filmmaker Jon Favreau wrote a guest essay called “Walt Disney, the Maverick” for The Times; it’s well worth a read. And while we’re digging through our archives, here’s a neat old photo of Disney with some pirate works-in-progress before the Pirates of the Caribbean ride opened and more vintage Disney photos.
This is my grandmother. She’s kind of awesome. Born and raised in a rural area of Louisiana she’s told me everything from how she got her drivers license initially simply because her stepfather vouched that she could drive, to the fact that her opinion on civil rights got her in trouble more than once. She’s an amazing cook, a movie lover and she once whacked me with her cane because I pronounced praline like a Californian not a southerner.
She’s whole heartedly endorsed every single creative idea and product I’ve ever made. I can’t thank her enough for that and I am so glad that she’s in my life.
Happy birthday Mimi.
One of the “photo booth” pictures I took at Stefanie’s birthday party Friday night - and perhaps my favorite. They weren’t sure what else to do so I suggested they all hold a prop up to someone else…and I love that they’re lined up by height.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEFANIE!!!

This day was a good day. It was the celebration of my 30th birthday. It was also the start of a bizarre chapter in my life. A chapter that seems to have come to a close.
I love all of the people in this photo and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings.
